What this service is

Charts tell Stories is a free stock research tool that visualizes financial data sourced from SEC EDGAR public filings. No ads. No paywall. No data selling.

What data we collect

We collect the minimum necessary to provide account features:

  • Email address — collected by Clerk when you sign in, used only for authentication.
  • Watchlist — stock tickers you save to your watchlist, stored against your account.
  • Portfolio positions — if you add positions: ticker, number of shares, cost basis, account label, purchase date, and any notes you enter.

We use Vercel Analytics to count page views and unique visitors. This uses no cookies and stores no personal data — only anonymised aggregate counts. We do not collect browsing history, device fingerprints, or advertising identifiers.

How your data is stored

Watchlist and position data is stored in a PostgreSQL database hosted by Supabase (US region). Authentication is handled by Clerk. The API runs on Railway and the frontend is hosted on Vercel.

Your data is only accessible to you when signed in. Row-level security is enforced at the database level — no other user can read your watchlist or positions.

Who can see your data

Only you. Stock and financial data displayed on the site comes from SEC EDGAR (public domain) and is visible to everyone. Your personal watchlist and positions are private and visible only when you are signed in.

Data retention and deletion

Your data is retained for as long as your account exists. To request deletion of your account and all associated data, contact us at the address below. We will process deletion within 30 days.
